How to be sun smart

  • Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

·        Use an appropriate strength, high factor sun screen for your skin - apply generously and often.

  • Sun burn can double your risk of sun cancer.
  • Summer sun is most damaging between 11am and 3pm - try to keep in the shade between these times.
  • Keep babies and young children covered up - aim to use a t-shirt, hat and sun glasses, as well as sun screen.
  • Wear appropriate clothing to the climate - in the heat it is best to wear light coloured, loose cotton clothes. Long sleeves and trousers will protect the skin. A hat will protect the head and face.
